After Branch-ing Out, Patriots Get Huge Win Over Ravens

After losing Randy Moss, picking up former Patriots hero Deion Branch, and much apprehension over playing arguably the NFL’s best team in the Baltimore Ravens, the Patriots squeaked out a huge 23-20 overtime win on Sunday. Moving to 4-1 on the season, the Patriots have now forced their way into the elite teams in the league this season discussion — whether it’s warranted or not.

The Patriots could not have looked worse for the majority of this game, but managed to keep the score 20-10 going into the 4th quarter. They then did their thing — Tom Brady drove the team down the field with ease, Deion Branch looked like his old self, and the defense made several huge stops in the overtime period. This win will likely go down as the Patriots trademark victory this season.

One huge mark of contention — yeah, I’m talking to you Billy boy. In the fourth quarter with four seconds left in the game, the Patriots had a chance to win the game with what would have been a 62-yard field goal. The kick would have been downwind with an excellent kicker, for the win, and to avoid overtime. Yet Bill Belichick opted to throw a hail mary into the end zone, a choice that seemed completely absurd to me. If given a shot at winning the game with a field goal, why not take it? If I were Patriots kicker Stephen Gostkowski I would have been livid — way to not trust your kicker, Bill. As a Patriots fan I am more than happy to have the play calling reigns in your hands, but this is one call I could not disagree with more. You’re lucky as hell that we pulled it out in OT.
